At Creative Arts Charter School, we are committed to providing all students with the support they need to succeed. Our Learning Center is a cornerstone of this commitment, offering specialized services for students with identified disabilities that impact their academic performance.
Our Team
The Learning Center is staffed by a dedicated team of professionals, including:
- Resource Specialists (RSPs)
- Special Education Paraprofessionals
- Speech Therapists
- Occupational Therapists (OT)
- Physical Therapists (PT)
- School Psychologists
- Other Specialized Staff
These experts work together to support students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Our Learning Center team is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can reach their full potential.
Our Partnership with SFUSD
We are proud to partner with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to provide comprehensive Special Education services. Through this long-standing collaboration, SFUSD staff take on key responsibilities including:
- Case Management
- In-Classroom and Out-of-Classroom Support
- Curriculum Accommodations and Modifications
- Service Coordination (e.g., OT, PT, Speech & Language Therapy, Counseling)
This partnership ensures that our students receive the tailored support they need to thrive academically and socially.

Our Approach
Our Learning Center serves K-8 students who have been identified as needing specialized support. To determine eligibility for an IEP, a comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation is conducted by our school psychologist and an RSP teacher. This evaluation is triggered when there is a perceived need for assessment. The findings are then presented to the family and relevant team members during an IEP meeting to decide whether the student qualifies for an IEP.
Once a student qualifies, our Learning Center team works with them individually and in small groups to provide differentiated instruction in literacy and mathematics. We employ a variety of multi-sensory techniques tailored to each student’s unique needs. Additionally, our team collaborates closely with classroom teachers to further differentiate and adapt the curriculum, ensuring that every student can access learning in a way that works best for them.
